Penelope Fitzgerald (1916–2000) was an acclaimed British author known for her insightful novels. She was born in Lincoln, England, and studied at Somerville College, Oxford. Fitzgerald's credibility in writing "Offshore," which won the 1979 Booker Prize, stems from her own experiences living on a houseboat in the Thames.
